MATRICULATION SPECULATION

An end to matriculation ‘controversy’!
A one-off offer to take up 557 places for the 2012/2013 matriculation courses will be made to Indian students who sat for SPM examination last year.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said in a statement that the offer was made by the Ministry of Education under the third intake for places available in 13 Government matriculation colleges.
Students who are eligible are expected to receive their offer letter by July 11 2012 and register themselves on July 18 2012.
Muhyiddin also said that a total of 1,539 Indian students were offered places to enrol into Government matriculation colleges in the 2012/2013 academic session that began on June 4. Out of this total, 943 students had registered with the matriculation colleges under the ministry.
Following the announcement by Prime Minister Najib Razak in February this year that the total seats for Indian community in Government matriculation colleges will be increased by 1,000 seats, Muhyiddin said the ministry offered 1,000 places to students from the Indian community for entry into matriculation colleges in the first intake on April 25.
Another 539 places were offered in the second intake on June 7, added Muhyiddin who is also the Education Minister.
